Martin Haines is a studio potter living in Nieu-Bethesda, with his wife Charmaine Haines. He produces ranges of handmade flatware i.e. plates and platters, specializing also in the production of tiles. He works mainly in a palette of blue and white, which is inspired by traditional early European porcelain, namely Delftware. His work is decorative and incorporates seventeen Century motives with contemporary designs. Martin Haines feels that his works, unlike that of fine porcelain, has a more rustic finish which gives it a more tactile ‘peasant pottery’ feel.
The artist has also created a range of works that are figures of rabbits or include motifs and designs thereof – which has been received with great enthusiasm. Along with this, the artist has also made a very successful range of ceramic cats.
